North Side Canal Company (NSCC) is actively seeking a Ditch Rider for the Jerome area. This position is not like positions in other companies in that a variety of new challenges present themselves due to ever changing issues that arise with the water supply industry. NSCC began delivering water to shareholders in 1908 and now delivers water to 155,000 acres of farmland on the north side of the Snake River in Jerome, Gooding, and Elmore counties. Since 1908 the company has evolved over the years to establish the North Side Pumping Company, the North Side Energy Company, and is joint owner in Milner Dam Inc. with Twin Falls Canal Company. Besides overseeing irrigation water delivery, these companies pump water, produce and sell electrical energy, and convey Eastern Snake Plain aquifer recharge water for the State of Idaho.
A Ditch Rider manages a portion of the canal system and makes adjustments to canal flows and individual head gates in the course of delivering irrigation water to farm fields. During the non- irrigation season, the Ditch Rider works with a crew of others to replace concrete structures, install new pipelines, and other construction related activities within the canal system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Communicate effectively with shareholders and the public, proactively working to resolve issues.
Measure and regulate irrigation water deliveries.
Keep accurate written/electronic records of water deliveries.
Help with weed spraying, mowing, weed burning, rodent control and weed eating the head gates.
Operate and maintain backhoe, truck, and telelift.
Perform concrete construction work.
Help resolve issues and problems as they arise.
Respond to phone calls to ensure that water deliveries and canal system flows correctly.
Desirable Qualifications:
Have a clean driving record.
Submit to pre-employment and random drug testing.
Submit to criminal background check.
Mechanically inclined and willing to operate a backhoe, telelift, and company vehicle.
Able to read a tape measure, to the nearest 16th of an inch.
Skilled in the use of power and hand tools.
Perform manual labor to clear weeds from ditches and form and pour concrete.
Physically fit and capable of lifting 75 pounds repetitively.
Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time under adverse weather conditions, able to pull weeds with weed fork as needed to keep canals flowing.
Complete work to high standards with limited supervision independently and with a team.
Work in a safe manner to protect self and others.
Experience & Education:
High School Graduate or GED equivalent
Possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL Idaho driver's license within 1 year of hire.
Compensation:
Compensation will be based on education, skills, experience, and will be negotiated.
